IMCO Members adopted a report on the proposed regulation establishing the Union Customs Code and the European Union Customs Authority. The Rapporteur is Ms Deirdre Clune (EPP). The vote in plenary was held on 13 March 2024 and the report now constitutes Parliament’s position at first reading. The file will be followed up by the new Parliament after the European elections on 6-9 June.
In a nutshell, the report provides for:
- Thorough preliminary vetting that would enable trustworthy companies to benefit from fewer customs checks later
- Platforms are to submit information to EU customs authorities about goods shipped to EU from third countries
- All EU customs authorities are to use the same IT system EU DataHub.
